Officers from the Darien Police Department responded to the TD Bank branch on Post Road at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Friday, July 26, where there was a report of a man who attempted to make a cash withdrawal with a suspicious ID before fleeing on foot.

The employee at the bank stated that an older, African American man had entered the bank and attempted to make the withdrawal with a Florida license as an ID, drawing the teller’s suspicion.

According to police, the employee became suspicious of the man’s ID and asked multiple questions to verify his identity, noting that the suspect “appeared nervous.”

Police said that the signature on the withdrawal slip did not match the signature on file with the account, at which point the employee asked for a debit card to verify the account. The man then turned around and walked away without further incident.

Further investigation determined that the information provided by the suspect matched that of an account holder at the bank. The license information was accurate except for the photo, which matched the suspect.

The incident remains under police investigation. Check Daily Voice for any updates.
